2 migrant workers killed, red alert in Manipur

Correspondent

Fresh wave of violence after a lull

IMPHAL: The police have sounded a red alert in Manipur following fresh killings of migrant workers.

An advisory has been issued asking migrant workers not to venture out of the city limits and to stick around the well-guarded main market.

But migrant workers are settled everywhere in the State, depending upon the nature of their trade and means of livelihood.

The government has not yet thought of opening a relief camp. In the past relief camps were opened inside the city area whenever killings seemed out of control.

Since Saturday a meat seller and a scrap dealer have been shot dead by suspected militants.

The bloody campaign is intended to drive migrant workers out of Manipur.

The incidents, after a period of normality for some months, took place after some migrant workers, who fled following the previous killings, had started coming back.
