Infighting to the fore in Congress

Rajulapudi Srinivas

NELLORE: The situation of the Congress in the district is no different from that prevailing in the the State. The internal dissidence which began during the elections had cost the Congress party six out of the ten segments in the district.

Despite the severe drubbing the party received in the elections, there is no change in the attitude of the leaders. This apart, there is a lot of infighting among the new entrants for supremacy.

The Congress candidate for Nellore town Assembly segment, Poluboina Anil Kumar Yadav, who lost in the elections alleged that non-cooperation by local MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy was the reason for the party’s poor show in the segment.

Mr. Anil Kumar along with PCC secretary Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and a few corporators formed a group and opened party city office on the name of Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan and the former declaring himself as the party in-charge for the city unit, while another group led by Anam is operating from Indira Bhavan separately.

Further to this, some people alleged that Municipal Administration Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy’s son, Mr.Subhakar Reddy resorted to malpractices. In Gudur constituency the Congress candidate Panabaka Krishnaiah alleged that former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha member Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy had sabotaged the party’s chances. The party lost two constituencies in the district with the anti-party activities of Mr.Reddy, he alleged.

No in-charge system

However, Mr. Janardhan Reddy at a press conference said that the PCC, after an enquiry, proved that Krishnaiah’s allegations were false. He said there was no in-charge system in Congress party and there are no in-charges for any constituency in the district. Mr. Krishnaiah launched enrolment drive in Gudur segment on October 2, and NJR launched the drive in the same segment after a few days.
