Minister for Major Industries Kanna Lakshminarayana takes a look at flood relief material to be distributed at flood affected mandals by Indian Medical Association, Guntur Chapter at the IMA Hall on Tuesday. IMA, Guntur president Lakshmaiah is also seen. GUNTUR: The Guntur Chapter of Indian Medical Association on Tuesday conducted a series of mobile medical camps in flood-affected mandals besides distributing flood relief material, medicines and essential provisions valued at Rs.8.50 lakh. Major Industries Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana flagged off an ambulance carrying medical personnel at the IMA Hall here. IMA-AP Chapter president Lakshmaiah and other members were present. A similar effort was made by the A.P. Cotton Association of Guntur by disbursing utensils, clothes and essentials in Kishkindapalem, Bhattiprolu and Repalle mandals. Association president G. Punnaiah Chowdhary said they had collected Rs.8 lakh and with that they had prepared 2,000 kits and disbursed those kits to families in the flood-affected villages. "Our effort was very small and people should come in large numbers to contribute for the relief measures," he added. Earlier, at a meeting at the IMA Hall, the Minister thanked the IMA for their kind gesture and urged them to conduct follow-up medical camps in the flood-affected villages. Dr. Lakshmaiah said a decision to provide succour to the flood-affected families was taken at an emergency general body meeting held last week. The lead was taken by managements of Arogyasri Network Hospitals, who contributed Rs.5 lakh immediately. This was followed by pooling of another Rs.1.70 lakh from hospitals without Arogyasri. He said relief material, including rice, was meant to be distributed to 1,500 families. Medical pills for treating viral fevers worth Rs.1.50 lakh were also sent in 20 ambulances. The medical teams would cover 15 villages, he said. Cardiologist Srinivasa Reddy of Karumuri Hospitals and Busireddy Narendra Reddy of Sai Bhaskar Hospitals were among the doctors present on the occasion.
