TIRUVARUR: A total of 135 members of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, affiliated to the Communist Party India (CPI), were taken into custody at Tiruvarur on Monday when they tried to picket the Collectorate. They were demanding that the State government press Karnataka to release Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery water.
V. Sivapunniyam, Mannargudi MLA, who led the agitation, Padmavathi, Nannilam MLA, and Ulaganathan, Thiruthuraipoondi MLA, were among those arrested. They also demanded disbursal of crop loan for all farmers without any condition.
