1,000 dry urinals to come up before Games

Delegation stressed the need for providing a better look to the markets

NEW DELHI: Following the success of the dry urinals commissioned earlier at various Inter-State Bus Terminals, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to construct 1,000 more waterless urinals in major markets and 700 state-of-the-art toilets on build, operate and transfer basis before commencement of Commonwealth Games.

The decision to construct the toilets and urinals was conveyed to a group of traders on Tuesday who had met Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and senior officials of the State Government to raise their demands pertaining to parking, sign boards, public toilets, street-lighting, hanging wires, sanitation, issue of Form C from Department of Trade and Taxes and security.

At the meeting, the MCD officials informed that the dry urinals commissioned earlier at ISBTs have been successful and it has therefore been decided that 1,000 more waterless urinals and 700 state-of-the-art toilets would be constructed before the Games.

During the meeting, the delegation stressed the need for providing a better look to the markets ahead of the Commonwealth Games. Since a number of issues raised by these traders related to the Department of Trade and Taxes, it was decided that a meeting of the Vat Traders Advisory Committee would be held later this month to take a comprehensive view of the problems of the traders and to address their concerns.

The traders were told to attend this meeting in which the Chief Minister and Finance Minister would also be present.
