HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has demanded that the government remove the Director of Mines and Geology and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests from their posts with immediate effect.

The newly-constituted TDP Polit Bureau which met for the first time expressed concern that the PCCF had allegedly directed the Anantapur divisional forest officer to stop looking into files pertaining to Obulapuram Mining Company henceforth.

The TDP wondered as to what kind of signal the government wanted to convey to the people in directing the DFO who exposed “illegal activities of the OMC” to keep off from the issue.

“Is it a democratically elected government or the one which is committed to protect the interests of private companies which flout norms for raking in profits?” TDP Polit Bureau member and senior leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy questioned.

The Polit Bureau discussed various issues including the failure of the government in providing rehabilitation to flood affected families, spiralling rise in prices of essentials, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, outbreak of viral fevers and serious power crisis which was likely to affect crops.

Briefing reporters, Dr. Janardhan Reddy lamented that while the city had witnessed a first of its kind outbreak of various viral fevers including Chikun Gunya, dengue and malaria, the government had failed to initiate steps to check them.

While the ailments claimed several lives, the government remained unmoved over the plight of the people.

“Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has finally realised the seriousness of the situation on Tuesday,” he said demanding that the government take measures like fogging and sanitation drive to prevent further damage.

To align with Left

The Polit Bureau, he said, had endorsed the proposal to align with the Left parties in the elections to the GHMC in line with its policy of taking steps to ensure that the Congress was not benefited. Senior leaders had been deputed to negotiate with the Left parties in seat sharing and the TDP was likely to release its first list of nominees on Wednesday evening.
