Shimoga
Official announcement to be made shortly Shimoga: The long cherished dream of the people of Shimoga to get the intercity train to Bangalore will become a reality soon. According to the Railways sources, the Mysore Division has sent the timing of the new intercity train to the Shimoga Railway Station and it has said that the date of commencement of the train would be announced shortly. As per the time-table, the intercity express train will depart from Shimoga at 6.20 a.m. and reach Bangalore city at 11.50 a.m. In the return journey, the same train will depart at 4.30 p.m. from Bangalore and reach Shimoga at 9.55 p.m. The journey will be of five-hour duration. The sources said the new intercity express train is likely to have 21 coaches comprising one AC three-tier compartment, two bogies for women, five second class reserved bogies, 12 second class general bogies and one pantry coach. But it is said that there is no clarity on whether the existing Shimoga-Bangalore passenger morning train will continue to be run after the introduction of the intercity train. Sources add that the present passenger train is popular among commuters for several reasons besides its fare which is only Rs. 38 for travelling from Shimoga to Bangalore. So, people might not like it if the train services were withdrawn for any reason.
