Yeddyurappa has asked party legislators to devote their time in monitoring and supervising development and welfare works in their constituencies instead of participating in “resort politics”. He even said that he would himself visit their constituencies if the legislators failed to heed his advice within two days from now. He was talking to presspersons here on Tuesday after launching work on houses for families whose villages fall in the flood-prone areas. The work involves the construction of 384 houses (Rankalkoppa 188, Chikkamulangi 64 and Lingadal 132) of Ramdurg taluk in the district. Sri Sivaratri Desikendra Swamiji of Suttur Math, Mysore, and Union Minister for Law M. Veerappa Moily were present. These houses will be constructed with donations made by industrialists R.N. Shetty, Vidya Murkumbi, Punit Dalmia, G.M. Rao and B.Y. Uppar. The industrialists were felicitated by the Chief Minister. In his brief address, Mr. Moily expressed appreciation for the steps being taken for the rehabilitation of the flood-affected families in the State. He promised support to the State from the Union Government. He said the Union Government had released Rs. 500 crore of the promised Rs. 1,000 crore to the State for relief and rehabilitation measures. The balance amount would be made available after the State Government utilised the available funds. He said that in addition to the Rs. 164 crore released from the Natural Calamity Relief Fund to the State this year, the Union Government had provided Rs. 2,970 crore under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. The Government could utilise these funds for relief and rehabilitation works.
