Ashwini Veershetty and Naveen R. Nandargi GULBARGA: The Dr. P.S. Shankar Pratishthan has selected first year MBBS students Ashwini Veershetty and Naveen R. Nandargi for receiving a monthly scholarship of Rs. 1,000 each till they complete their medical degree Announcing this here on Tuesday, secretary of the pratishthan S.S. Hiremath said that Naveen would receive the P.S. Shankar Medical Student Scholarship and Ashwini would receive the Dr. Indira Veerabhadrappa Medical Student Scholarship. Naveen, hailing from Ranebennur in Haveri district, is a student of the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences and Ashwini is a student of the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences. Naveen, who lost his father 15 years ago, is being brought up by his mother, Susheela, a tailor. He did his schooling in Kannada medium in Lion’s Kannada Medium School and pre-university course in RTES Pre-University College in which he scored 91 per cent. He secured 2,285th rank in the CET. Ashwini, hailing from a poor family in Mailar village in Bidar district, did her schooling in government schools in Kannada medium and PUC in Shaheen Independent Pre-University College. She secured 1,917th rank in the CET. Ashwini’s mother, Vijayalakshmi, is a balawadi teacher in a private school. The pratishthan has been giving scholarships since 2002 to poor and meritorious students who have had their basic education in Kannada.
