The acquisition will displace 2,500 families Two notifications already issued, final one due soon HASSAN: Over 200 people from Dasarakoppalu, Mavinahalli and Chikkakundagula staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday protesting against the acquisition of 524 acres of land for the proposed Karnataka Housing Board colony. The acquisition will displace about 2,500 families. Although the proposal for acquisition was made when H.D. Kumaraswamy was the Chief Minister and H.S. Prakash was the MLA representing Hassan, Mr. Prakash also participated in the dharna with farmers and their families. He assured the residents of these villages that he would do his best to ensure that the Government did not issue the final notification to acquire the land. Former Minister B. Shivaram, S.M. Anand, MLC, and Congress leader H.K. Mahesh, president of the district unit of Janata Dal (Secular) H.K. Javare Gowda, Bharatiya Janata Party district general secretary Lohith Gowda Kunduru also participated in the dharna. The protesters said that the land was their only means of a livelihood, and if the land was taken away from them they would be on the streets. Mr. Kunduru said that the H.D. Kumaraswamy Government had already issued notifications to acquire the land and it was likely that the final notification would be issued soon. Leaders from all political parties assured the farmers that they would take a delegation to the Government to drop the notification.
