Raise rice output equal to China, Korea: Collector

Residential training programme for farmers’ club members

TIRUVARUR: Collector M. Chandrasekaran has appealed to farmers to adopt new technologies to increase rice productivity in the State.

Inaugurating a four-day residential training programme for farmers’ club members from 15 districts organised by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development under its capacity building programme for adopting new technologies at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Needamangalam in Tiruvarur district on Monday, Mr. Chandrasekaran said that besides adopting modern techniques, they should undergo appropriate training and attend capacity building programmes.

“Farmers should try to bring the rice productivity on a par with China and Korea,” Mr. Chandrasekaran said.

Book released

He appreciated the initiative taken by NABARD in training the farmers and released a book titled “Modern techniques in rice production” brought out by the KVK. He also released fish fingerlings to farmers.

V.A. Raghavan, District Development Manager, NABARD, Tiruvarur district, said that the programme was organised utilising the Farmers Technology Transfer Fund. Additional training programmes would be conducted in precision farming, pest and disease management in rice and inland fisheries for the members of farmers clubs from various districts.

K. Pandiyan, Lead District Manager, Tiruvarur, T. Senguttuvan, Professor and Head, KVK, Needamangalam participated in the function.
