Daily wage, part-time workers plan fast

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: Group ‘D’ daily wage and part-time government staff, recruited through the employment exchange, will observe a fast near Nehru statue on Thursday.

Their demands include regularisation of jobs of daily wage workers according to seniority and filling of vacant posts with part-time workers recruited through the employment exchange.

“We have served for over 10 years as part-time and daily wage employees, and are yet to get permanent jobs. This strike is aimed at drawing attention to our demands,” S. Pavadairayan, president of the Group D Daily rated and Part-Time Staff Recruited Through Employment Exchange Welfare Association said.

1,400 workers

Around 700 part-time workers and 700 daily wage workers are a part of this association, he said.
