Protest mode: Visually-challenged students staging a dharna in front of the Collectorate at Nalgonda on Tuesday. -- NALGONDA: Inmates of the Nalgonda School for the Blind staged a day-long dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Tuesday to press for redressal of their grievances. Speaking on the occasion, Development & Welfare Association of the Blind general secretary P. Chokka Rao deplored that the officials concerned recommended sanction of grant-in-aid for only 89 inmates as against the total strength of 130 inmates of the hostel under the Central government-sponsored financial assistance scheme for 2009-10 financial year. He urged the government departments concerned to determine the exact strength of the inmates of the residential school based on the relevant certificates and documents. The inmates called off the stir following an assurance given by Nalgonda MP G. Sukhender Reddy, who is the patron-in-chief of the association, to look into the matter and examine their plea.
