CPI seeks inclusion of dengue under Arogyasri

Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR: Flaying the State government for not taking any measures to check the spread of dengue in the district, the CPI district unit leaders have demanded the government to include the treatment of dengue cases under the Arogyasri health insurance scheme.

CPI MLC Jalli Wilson, district secretary Marri Venkat Swamy, party leaders Ramgopal Reddy, B. Ashok and others visited the government headquarters hospital in Karimnagar town on Tuesday and consoled the ailing patients. They also visited the NTR Tamil colony and consoled the patients suffering from the dengue and also bereaved family members.

Talking to newsmen later, the MLC demanded the government to announce an ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each to the dengue victims’ family members and Rs. 50,000 each to the ailing patients to meet the medical expenses.

Expressing concern over the spate of deaths due to the lethargy on the part of government in checking the spread of disease, he said that the dengue had claimed over 150 lives in Karimnagar district.

He found fault with the Health Department for not monitoring the situation properly and controlling the spread of disease. He said that there was no proper sanitation at the government headquarters hospital in the town. He demanded the government to install the platelets separation equipment at all government hospitals to help the patients suffering from dengue.

Alleging that the government failed to take up drought relief measures in the district, the MLC said that the central team visit would not solve the purpose and demanded the government to provide employment to all farm labourers under NREGS and provide wages of Rs. 150 per day.
