KADAPA: Andhra Pradesh police force is the best in containing extremism and has been a model for other States, Inspector-General of Police (law and Order), Rayalaseema Range, R.P. Thakur asserted on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Passing-Out parade (Deekshant parade) of civil stipendiary cadet trainee police constables at the District Training Centre parade grounds here, Mr. Thakur said naxalism was under control in the State.

In fact, other States such as Jharkand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Orissa were adopting the techniques used by police here in coming to grips with their extremism.

The State also topped in undertaking massive police recruitment. In all, 13,000 police constable recruits have completed training and would join duty within the next three to four days, the IGP stated. The new batch of constables should remember the oath administered to them and abide by it in letter and spirit, the Inspector-General said and exhorted them to be courteous towards the common man.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Kurnool Range V.R.K. Mohan Rao, said the policemen, who were ordinary citizens a few days ago, should work with a new responsibility. They were imparted a nine-month training for tackling crime in the fast-changing society.

Superintendent of Police (Administration) L.S. Chowhan administered a pledge to the recruits to work with honesty, impartiality and without favouritism. The IGP presented trophies to N. Jamal Rao of Krishna district for best outdoor performance, constables of Nalgonda district - N. Prathap for best indoor performance, S. Lingaiah for best firing, K. Anand for best allround performance and G. Prathap, the parade commandant.

Apart from Collector Shashi Bhusan Kumar, Training Centre Principal P. Chalam, Kadapa DSP Subba Reddy and other police officials also participated.

Honoured

The IGP and the Collector presented the ‘Parakrama Pathakam’ and felicitated Hanumanthu, who valiantly fought back naxalites when they fired at an APSP van carrying police personnel in 1994.

They gave away a house site patta to the wife of a police constable, Samuel, who was killed in firing by naxalites. They gave away prizes to personnel who excelled during training.
