KOZHIKODE: Defence Minister A.K. Antony has said that the vision of the former Chief Minister C.H. Mohammed Koya for the development of the Muslim community in the State is now being implemented all over the nation. He was speaking after presenting the C.H. Mohammed Koya Journalist awards to Barkha Dutt, visual journalist, and A.G. Noorani, Constitutional expert, here on Tuesday. Mr. Antony said the Rajinder Sachar Committee report on alleviating the backwardness of Muslims was being implemented in phases. The Minister said that if there was someone who should be thanked for the educational achievements of the Muslim community in the State, it would be Koya. The educational reforms initiated by him led to the uplift of the Muslim community on the educational front. Koya fought ferociously for the rights of the community. Mr. Noorani, in his address, said that both Kerala and Kashmir were models of secularism among the States in India. In Kerala, one would find temple, church and mosque side by side. Ms. Dutt lamented that news was getting more and more trivial. Today’s television news was more for attracting eyeballs. Being in Kerala, she regretted that the news being telecast by national channels was North India-centric. In the days to come, there would be a conscious effort to reflect more of Kerala in the national news. P.A. Ibrahim, chairman, C.H. Mohammed Koya Trust, presided. Union Minister of State for Railways E. Ahamed, P.K. Kunhalikutty, State general secretary, Indian Union Muslim League, P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP, and P.V. Gangadharan, president, Malabar Chamber of Commerce; spoke.
