SRIKAKULAM: The employment being provided under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) will be continued up to June to those seeking work, District Collector N. Srikant has said. He directed the officials concerned to identify the works. The Collector inspected the works going on at Bontupeta and Sirlapalem in Laveru mandal on Tuesday. He spoke to the labourers. At Bontupeta about 120 workers are participating in tank works. They told the Collector that they were earning up to Rs.125 a day. On their request that employment be provided up to June, the assistant project officer said another tank work would be taken up after the completion of the ongoing one. At Sirlapalem, labourers told Mr. Srikant that they were getting from Rs.80 to Rs.100 a day. About 400 people of Tallavalasa panchayat are taking part. Central team visitCentral team to assess the drought conditions will visit the district on November 5, according to the Collector. The team will visit Sancham in Ranasthalam and Budumuru in Laveru mandals, Uppinivalasa in Boorja and Pedalavunipalli and Turakalakota in Nandigam mandals. People’s representatives of the respective mandals and farmers may inform the team about the conditions. He assured the farmers that crop insurance would be applicable to all areas even if some were not declared drought-hit. Farmers would get benefit as village was being taken as unit for crop insurance. He expressed his satisfaction at the drought works in Laveru mandal.
