Minister promises better amenities for refugees

Tiruvannamalai: Food Minister E.V. Velu, who inspected Sri Lankan Tamil refugee camps in the district on Tuesday, promised to provide better amenities at the camps.
Mr.Velu visited Adi Annamalai, Athiyandhal, Thukkapettai (Chengam), Pudupalayam, Elathur, Kasthambadi, Thenpallipattu and Sorakolathur camps. At the Adi Annamalai camp, people complained that every 24 or more houses share a common power connection which led to difficulties. Mr. Velu announced that henceforth they would get one power connection for every five houses.
On refugees’ complaints regarding poor sanitation facilities at the camp, he said better facilities would be created. He wanted the refugees who are willing to stay here permanently to register themselves at the Collectorate so that government could plan and construct permanent tenements for them.
