Another person part of the racket missing Inquiry on to find out the source of the notes TIRUPATTUR: Two persons, including a woman, were arrested for circulating counterfeit currency notes to commercial establishments coming under the Kandhili Police Station limits in Tirupattur Taluk on Monday. Police said Prabhakaran (24) and Mukthiyar (33) were found circulating counterfeit currency notes with the face value of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000. Police said Prabhakaran was a resident of Nariyaneri and Mukthiyar; wife of Anbu, was a resident of Kandhili. Both were arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police said the tip-off came from Ramachandran (24), a petty-shop owner and resident of Kandhili. It was stated that Prabhakaran had purchased some vegetables and groceries from the petty shop. The total amount for which he had made the purchase was Rs.60, but Prabhakaran gave Rs.500 to Ramachandran stating that he would collect the change later. This led to suspicion and Ramachandran approached the Kandhili Police Station and handed over the currency note. Police said they verified the genuiness of the currency note with bank officials in Kandhili, who confirmed it to be counterfeit. The police registered a case and went on a hunt for Prabhakaran. He was caught with two more counterfeit currency notes. Prabhakaran confessed that he had been assisting Mukthiyar and Anbu in circulating the notes to commercial establishments, including petty shops, in and around Kandhili. Based on the information given by Prabhakaran, they arrested Mukthiyar. However, the whereabouts of Anbu was not known. Police seized five fake notes with the face value of Rs.1,000 and 40 notes with the face value of Rs.500 from Mukthiyar. An inquiry was on to find out the source of the notes. Further enquiries revealed that the police had seized a total of 15 counterfeit currency notes with the face value of Rs.1,000 and 141 counterfeit currency notes with the face value of Rs.500 from the culprits respectively.
