KSTP work on MC Road progressing

PATHANAMTHITTA: The development work on the Adoor-Pandalam- Chengannur stretch of MC Road as part of the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) is fast progressing so as to complete it in two months.

The KSTP work was resumed on the stretch 18 months ago.

The development work along MC Road would be completed in three phases of Kazhakkuttom-Venjaramoodu, Venjaramoodu-Chengannur and Chengannur-Alappuzha. The KSTP project also covers the Alappuzha-Changanassery road.

KSTP sources said the work on the Changanassery-Alappuzha road had already been completed and the surfacing work along the Venjaramoodu- Chengannur stretch had been completed up to Pandalam.

Widening work at major junctions in the towns of Kilimanur, Ayur, Adoor and Pandalam had been completed as part of the project.

Scientifically designed traffic islands, pedestrian crossings and traffic signal system would be constructed at all major junctions.

The development work on the Kulanada-Chengannur stretch of MC Road was progressing so as to complete it in a time bound manner in view of the Sabarimala pilgrim season.

The renewed KSTP project had been undertaken as a joint venture by PATI company of Malaysia and Bhageeratha Engineering Ltd. (PATI-BEL) at a revised estimate of Rs.215 crore.

The development work on the Chengannur- Thiruvalla-Muvattupuzha stretch of MC Road would be launched in the second phase, sources said.
