Water level at Thatipudi drops

VIZIANAGARAM: Water level in Thatipudi reservoir has dropped to alarming level and it stood at 270 feet corresponding to 285 feet for the same period last year.

The full reservoir level is 297 feet and the dead storage level is 251 feet.

The reserve water supply to GVMC for one year is between 268 feet and 251 feet. As a result release of water for rabi crop in 35 villages in Gantyada, Jami and S. Kota mandals was uncertain, according to sources.

Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (now GVMC) built the reservoir in 1968 on River Gosthani by investing Rs. 182 lakhs in 1968.

The corporation gets 11 mgd through pipes for drinking water needs of Vizagites from the reservoir, which also supplies water to 15,366 acres in the said three mandals.
