Police arrest Haryana gang ‘sharp-shooter’

Staff Reporter

‘Involved in cases of murder and attempt-to-murder’

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man allegedly involved in cases of murder and attempt-to-murder has been arrested at Peeragarhi in West Delhi. The police claim to have recovered a country-made firearm and live cartridges from him.

The accused has been identified as Dinesh, a resident of neighbouring Bahadurgarh in Haryana. According to the police, he was a sharpshooter of the Sunda Sarpanch gang.

Acting on a tip-off that Dinesh would pass through Peeragarhi, a team led by Inspector Rajkumar of the Special Staff laid a trap and arrested him on Sunday.

During interrogation, he purportedly disclosed that he entered into the world of crime in 1999 when his uncle Sunda of Mandauthi village was murdered by his political rival Sukhbir after he was elected as the village sarpanch .

To avenge his murder, the accused along with his father and cousin killed Sukhbir’s son Satpal.

All the accused were arrested and later released on bail, except Dinesh. He faced trial while in custody and came out in 2004. In the meantime, his father died due to prolonged illness and his younger brother Brijesh was allegedly murdered by the rival gang.

In 2004, Dinesh was again arrested in the murder of a rival gang’s member.

While he was in jail in 2006, his cousin Kuldeep murdered two members of the rival gang by burning them alive in a room at Bahadurgarh, the police said. In 2007, he was again released from jail. The same year, Kuldeep was murdered by the rivals.

Dinesh is the sole eyewitness in that case. In August 2008, Dinesh and his cousins allegedly attacked Sukhbir, who escaped with injuries. The accused were underground since then.
