Shimoga: Shell Foundation, an independent the U.K. registered charity started by the Shell Group, launched a campaign in the Shimoga district on Tuesday to promote measures to reduce indoor air pollution and create awareness on the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Anuradha Bhavnani, Country Head of the Shell Foundation, told presspersons here that the campaign would be launched in 111 villages of all the seven taluks of Shimoga district. She said that that the internal air pollution in India resulted from burning biomass like wood, crop waste and animal dung while cooking. According to her, it was estimated that the toxic emissions and smoke from cooking claimed as many as four lakh lives in India every year.
