THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Eight of the ten students of the PG diploma programme in Geo-Information Science and Technology of the University of Kerala have received job placements even before they have finished writing their final examinations. All the eight would soon be joining as ‘GIS engineer trainees’ at the Kochi office of the company NeST. Of the remaining two students, one has opted for research and the other has decided not to apply for a job immediately. This is the first batch of the PG diploma programme instituted in 2008 at the Centre for Geo-Information Science and Technology at the Department of Geology, University of Kerala. The interview for the eight students was held on October 9 and they have been asked to report for work on November 11, a day after their viva voce examination. “Since almost all our students have been placed, we found that we could not entertain any queries from other companies based mainly in Bangalore and Hyderabad.”
