Multi-cornered contests certain

HYDERABAD: The forthcoming elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are likely to witness multi-cornered contests in a majority of the divisions as the moves for forging alliances are yet to yield any tangible results.

The proposed tie-up between the Congress and the Praja Rajyam failed to take off following sharp differences that surfaced in the Congress. The Telugu Desam is yet to strike an accord with the Left parties.

The BJP, MIM, and the Lok Satta Party have conveyed their intentions to go it alone and have commenced releasing lists of their nominees for several divisions.

The TRS, on its part, has almost decided to stay out of the contest as its leadership has decided to concentrate on agitations for taking forward the separate Telangana cause.
