Dengue: Rosaiah reviews medicare

Health officials told to take more effective steps to contain the disease


Instructions issued to blood banks to supply the required platelets in minimum time

Youth and social workers urged to strengthen blood banks by voluntarily donating blood


HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Monday asked the Health Department officials to take more effective steps to contain dengue fever. He expressed anguish over the reported cases of dengue in the city and districts.

Mr. Rosaiah reviewed with Principal Secretary (Health) L. V. Subrahmanyam and officials the availability of medicare in the 11 identified hospitals. Mr. Subrahmanyam confirmed to the Chief Minister that a 24/7 monitoring of all the 11 hospitals was in place. Mr. Rosaiah wanted constant monitoring of the situation across the State, particularly Hyderabad and neighbouring districts.

Fool-proof treatment

Officials informed him that clear instructions had been issued to blood banks to supply the required platelets in minimum time. The Chief Minister wanted all patients in government hospitals to be supplied platelets and that fool-proof treatment given.

Mr. Rosaiah suggested that Warangal, Hyderabad, Kurnool, Guntur and Krishna district Collectors conduct regular blood donation camps to ensure that more blood was available. He appealed particularly to youth and social workers to strengthen the blood banks by voluntarily donating blood.

According to officials, all blood banks were being regularly monitored with the help of the Joint Director, blood safety. The Chief Minister asked officials to advise people to have water treated, practise personal hygiene among students/children, use mosquito nets/repellents and take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

Officials reported a decline in the dengue cases in Hyderabad since the peak season was over. However, Mr. Rosaiah wanted effective preventive steps continued to prevent any spread of the disease. He asked officials to launch awareness drives in the city and surrounding areas on stagnant water and mosquito breeding. Officials said they were coordinating with the colony associations and NGOs in planning a dry day in a week by emptying water tankers and drying them.
