Corrections and clarifications

A report “Buddhadeb says Mamata is trying to shield Maoists” (October 31, 2009) incorrectly said that the Union Minister of Rural Development is Shishir Adhikary. The Union Minster of Rural Development is Dr. C.P. Joshi. Mr. Sisir Adhikari, and not Shishir Adhikary, is the Union Minister of State for Rural Development.

We erred in saying that the first general election was held in 1952 (“Online and Offline”, November 2, 2009). As pointed out in “Corrections and Clarifications” (April 4, 2009), the first general elections were between October 25, 1951 and February 21, 1952. The tenure of the First Lok Sabha was from April 17, 1952 to April 4, 1957.

The first paragraph of a book review “The road to recovery” (Literary Review, November 1, 2009) said that Lord Mountbatten was killed in a bomb blast on August 27, 1999. The year should have been 1979.
