Sathiyan (SDAT-Medimix) prevailed in an interesting final against R. Venkataramanan (SRSA) 11-9, 12-14, 11-9, 11-7, 11-6 to claim the men’s title in the Aircel State championship table tennis tournament organised by the SDAT-Medimix Chandra Table Tennis Coaching Centre, at the DG Vaishnav College, on Sunday. Swetha Kumaravel (Indian Bank) had a comfortable win over D.V. Sneha (Indian Bank) 11-9, 11-7, 11-9, 11-4 in the women’s final. Sathiyan, who won the youth and the junior titles as well, appeared the more confident of the two, riding on his two earlier titles. He edged past Venkataramanan in a tightly contested first game, but Venkataramanan drew him out of his comfort zone in the second while controlling and cutting down on his pace. Sathiyan took little time to recover and assume control of the third, even if Venkataramanan didn’t give in easily. Sathiyan backed himself to produce winners and mix things up to further unsettle Venkataramanan into errors to complete the win. Swetha was assertive and accurate against Sneha in the women’s final. Sneha impressed in spurts, but Swetha seemed the clear winner throughout. Chief guest I.V.J. Pradeep, Regional Business Head, Aircel Cellular Limited gave away the prizes.
