This treatment is first developed in Germany, says ophthalmologist Treatment takes only 20 seconds and there will be no side effects, he says VIJAYAWADA: Six months from now, the hitherto unavailable laser treatment for age-related Presbyopia will be brought within the reach of the people. This will provide a huge relief and the need for wearing spectacles will be eliminated up to nearly the age of 50. City-based ophthalmologist M.N. Raju, who has received training at a camp held in Spain recently, says that the laser process to cure the age-related near vision defect has proved to be a success and this is being called “Intracore treatment.” This treatment is first developed in Germany and, in about six months, the intracore will be available for needy people across the country here. Dr. Raju says that one can lead a happy, spectacles-free life till the age of 50 without bothering about changing glasses every now and then. Presbyopia is a medical condition, where the lens of the eye loses its ability to focus and people will feel difficulty to see close objects. People, after the age of 40, eventually get this complaint and they have to wear glasses to see near objects especially for reading purpose. “Intracore treatment will prove to be a boon for all. It is just a 20-seconds long treatment and there will be no side effects,” says Dr. M.N. Raju, who is a well-known ophthalmologist. He participated in the prestigious conference organised by the European Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons held in Spain in the month of September this year. Dr. Raju was among a select group of ophthalmologists, who were given the opportunity to get training in intracore treatment there. As of now, the benefit of a spects-free life is available only for those having complaints of distance vision. It is because of the availability of the laser treatment. For near vision complaints, there is no alternative but to go for spectacles now. Dr. Raju says that the intracore is awaiting approval under the FDA and the commercial launch is expected to be cleared in a few months from now. ‘Boosts quality of work’According to him, the correction of presbyopia will help enhance quality of work and also boost productivity of an individual. There will also be time-related advantages, as the need for wearing spectacles is totally absent.
