VUYYURU: No Chief Minister or Congress leader worked for the ideals of Indira Gandhi like Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy said speakers at a special meeting of the Krishna District Congress Committee held in observance of the 25th death anniversary of the former Prime Minister here on Saturday. Minister for Animal Husbandry K.Parathasarothy said that Indira Gandhi brought sweeping changes in the economy of the country and the lives of the poor by nationalising banks and implementing the 20-point programme. Rajasekahara Reddy walked in the path of Indira Gandhi and all his welfare schemes were for the benefit of the poor. The Minister said no Chief Minister showered as many boons on the people of Krishna district as Dr Reddy since independence. Pulichintala project and the Machilipatnam Port will bring about sweeping changes in the economy of the district, he said. Jagan as CMResponding to the demand of party workers and some leaders that Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy should be made the Chief Minister, Mr Parthasarothy said that the party high command and AICC president Sonia Gandhi who is like a mother to all the party workers were fully aware of the party workers wishes. The Minister used the occasion to warn the Telugu Desam leaders in the district against trying to use violence against the Congress cadre. He said ever since Rajasekhara Reddy’s death elements that were known to be associated with the TDP were trying to browbeat the Congress workers using violence. This would not be tolerated he said and added that any further violence from TDP side would force the Congress workers to retaliate. Former Deputy Chief Minister Koneru Ranga Rao, his daughter and MPP Tantiya Kumari, zilla parishad vice-chairperson T.Padmavati were among the important leaders who said that the party high command should take heed of the growing public demand to make Mr. Jagan Chief Minister. Former Minister Devineni Rajasekhar, MLAs Malladi Vishnu, Jogi Ramesh, D.Y.Das, Perni Venkata Ramaiah and D. Padmajyothi attended the meeting.
