A tribute to the flood-affected

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Members of Apoorva Kalavidaru from Kasaragod staged Male Ninta Mele, a play conceived of by Rathnakara Mulimane and directed by M. Umesh Salian, here on Saturday.

The play portrays the plight of the flood victims. The play was staged at K.R. Circle, Kyatamaranahalli Tent and near Kote Anjaneya Swami temple.

Santhvana Rangayatre

The play was part of Santhvana Rangayatre, a six-day-long artistic tribute to the flood victims of north Karnataka. This caravan, comprising 15 artistes, began its journey by staging the play in various parts of Kasaragod on October 27 and 28, and reached Mangalore on Friday where it staged four shows.

Senior journalist Rajashekara Koti inaugurated the rangayatre at the K.R. Circle.

Focus

Speaking to the gathering, Mr. Salian said the play focussed on the aspirations and dreams of the people in flood-hit areas and how their dreams get shattered by the calamity.

The rangayatre would conclude after a performance by the troupe at Raveendra Kalakshetra in Bangalore, he added.

Apoorva Kalavidaru became popular after it launched the unique “Lorry Nataka” (play on the truck) which drew appreciation in various theatre festivals across the country. The troupe was also conducting a theatre festival every year, he added.
