New train timings to come into force on Sunday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Speeding up of 12 express trains running to and from Kerala and regularisation of two passenger trains are the highlights of the new railway timetable that will come into effect from November 1.

The introduction of the new railway timetable, which is done in July every year by the railways, was not done this year due to the Lok Sabha elections.

The new timings of the mail, express and passenger trains will come into effect from Sunday and will be applicable till June 2010, railway sources said.

As per the new timings, the 2695 Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Super Fast Express will arrive at Thiruvananthapuram central at 7.25 a.m., the 6303 Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram Vanchinad Express at 9.40 a.m., the 2623 Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Super Fast Express at 11.20 a.m. and the 6318 Jammu-Tawi Kanyakumari Himsagar Express at 7.15 p.m.

The new trains announced in the railway budget by Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee have figured in the new timetable with the timings and days of operation.

But the date of introduction of the services of the new trains, including the 2284/2283 Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Weekly ‘Duronto’ Express via Konkan Railway, had not figured in the timetable.

The other trains are the 2788/2787 Tirunelveli-Bilaspur-Tirunelveli Weekly Superfast Express via Nagercoil and Thiruvananthapuram, the 2998/2997 Hapa-Tirunelveli-Hapa Bi-weekly Superfast Express, the 2789/2790 Rameswaram-Kanyakumari-Rameswaram Tri-weekly Superfast Express,

The other trains that figure in the timetable and which will commence services later are the 2777/2778 Yesvantpur-Kochuveli-Yesvantpur Weekly Superfast Express and the 0215/0216 Madgaon-Ernakulam-Madgaon Weekly Superfast Express. The 6605/6606 Mangalore Central-Kochuveli-Mangalore Central Tri-weekly Express had commenced services on September 13.

Among the trains that were extended, the 2076/2075 Thiruvananthapuram–Ernakulam–Thiruvananthapuram Jan Shatabdi Daily Express was extended up to Kozhikode from August 15.

The extension of the 6517/6518 Yesvantpur-Mangalore Central-Yesvantpur Daily Express to Kannur, the 6866/6865 Ernakulam-Tiruchchirappalli-Ernakulam Daily Express to Nagore, the 2686/2685 Mangalore-Chennai Central Express (once a week) to Puducherry and the 2977/2978 Ernakulam-Jaipur-Ernakulam Marusagar Weekly Express to Ajmer will be notified later.

Railway sources said the 6328 Thiruvananthapuram-Korba Express will be speeded up by 60 minutes, the 2522 Ernakulam-Barauni Express by 35 minutes, the 1098 Ernakulam-Pune Express by 35 minutes, the 2685 Chennai Central-Mangalore Central Express by 35 minutes and the 6318 Jammu-Tawi Kanyakumari Himsagar Express by 30 minutes from November 1.

The 2217 Kochuveli-Chandigarh Kerala Sampark Kranti Express will be speeded up by 20 minutes from Sunday, the 2508 Guwahati-Ernakulam Express, the 2512 Thiruvananthapuram-Gorakhpur Raptisagar Express (both by 20 minutes) and the 2483 Kochuveli-Amritsar Express by 15 minutes.

The popular 6305 Ernakulam-Kannur Intercity Express will be speeded by 10 minutes, the 6302 Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur Venad Express by 10 minutes and the 6627 Chennai Central-Mangalore Central West Coast Express also by 10 minutes.

The 0639/0640 Shoranur-Nilambur Road-Shoranur Daily Passenger and the 0605/0606 Coimbatore-Shoranur-Coimbatore (six days a week) Passenger, both running as special trains at present, will be regularised with effect from November 1.

Number changed

The train number of 2653 Kochuveli-Chandigarh Weekly Express on Saturday has been changed as 2217 with effect from December 5 and that of the 2654 Chandigarh-Kochuveli Weekly Express on Wednesday was changed as 2218 with effect from December 2.
