Apollo Hospitals net profit up

CHENNAI: Apollo Hospitals has registered a net profit of Rs. 78.86 crore in the first six months ended September 30, 2009, against Rs. 59.40 crore in the year-ago period in the previous year. Total income has risen to Rs. 862.01 crore from Rs. 693.90 crore.

According to Prathap C. Reddy, Chairman, “the group would continue to explore new avenues in providing healthcare solutions while also being responsive to global healthcare needs. Today our vision is not restricted to delivering quality healthcare to just the immediate community around us but has exponentially grown to reaching out to people in every corner of the globe.”

According to a release, the management started a pilot project at Chennai Main Hospital to develop a model to drive growth and profitability. The project has helped achieve 18.6 per cent revenue growth this half year and helped improve margins by 100 basis points from 25.3 per cent to 26.3 per cent.

The 220-bed multi-specialty Apollo Bramwell Hospital in Mauritius, a joint venture with British American Investment Company started operations. Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam inaugurated the new hospital.

The Apollo Children’s hospital, a quaternary care paediatric hospital, was inaugurated recently.

Phase-1 of the new international patients block at Apollo Health city, Hyderabad, had already registered a 60 per cent occupancy within months of its inauguration, the release added.
