Calicut University D-Zone festival begins in Thrissur

Thrissur: The Calicut University D-Zone Arts Festival began at the IES College of Engineering, Chittilappilly, on Thursday.

Ravunni, University Union Chairperson P. Jiji and University syndicate members were present on the occasion.

As many as 5,000 students from 79 colleges affiliated to the university would compete in 89 events.

Competitions would be held in three venues—Neelambari, Chamayam and Bharatham named in memory of writer Kamala Suraiya, actor Murali and writer-director Lohithadas.

Pookkalam making, versification, embroidery and clay modelling were the competitions held on Thursday. The following are the results of the events: Pookkalam: E.M. Fejna and Group, Ansar Womens’ College, Perumbilavu. Versification (Tamil): P.B. Vehedha, Ansar Womens College, Perumbilavu. Versification (Urdu): Umama Afreen, Ansar Womens College, Perumbilavu. Versification (Arabic): K.P. Sajid, GEC, Thrissur.

Embroidery: Anna Kallukkaran, IES College of Engineering, Chittilappilly. Clay modeling: V.A. Shinoj, IES College of Engineering, Chittilappilly.
