THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Election Commission of India has dropped the complaint about alleged violation of the model code of conduct for the byelections by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan. An official announcement on Wednesday said the commission had decided to close the issue after considering the details and circumstances of the issue. The UDF had alleged that Mr. Achuthanandan had tried to influence voters in the Kannur Assembly constituency by promising two-lakh jobs in the IT sector in two years and announcing starting of work on the IT Parks at Eramath in Kannur district and Cheemeni in Kasaragod district. The Chief Minister’s office explained that the sche- mes mentioned by the Chief Minister were ones announ- ced earlier in the budget.
