BERHAMPUR: A panicky gossip related to Kandhamal district kept people of the State anxious on Monday night. As per the gossip three policemen had been killed in a blast by naxals near Katingia in Kandhamal district on Monday afternoon. Some Oriya Satellite channels started flashing it as their breaking news in their 9 p.m. bulletins. A channel came up with another version of this gossip that one policeman had been killed and three others had been injured. The rumour was extended with the information that three injured policemen were being brought to the MKCG medical college hospital for treatment. When contacted by The Hindu at 9.15 p.m. regarding this rumour, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, southern range, R.P.Koche categorically denied of any major law and order happening in Kandhamal district. He said it was a gossip as he had checked up with all the local authorities about the authenticity of the clandestine rumour. He was surely true.
