Thrissur: Preparations are on to welcome a ‘cultural yatra’, organised by the Culture Department and various cultural organisations, that will pass through Thrissur on January 15. The yatra will be flagged off at Kasaragod on January 1. As part of the yatra, cultural personalities will be felicitated, programmes staged and exhibitions conducted. A meeting was held at the Collectorate conference hall here on Tuesday, chaired by Deputy Collector P. Indira Devi, to discuss various aspects of the yatra. District Panchayat president Ambadi Venu inaugurated the meeting. Jawahar Balbhavan executive director C. R. Das and Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University for Art and Culture registrar N. R. Gramaprakash spoke about the objectives of the yatra. The yatra will introduce spectators to classics. Film screening, painting exhibitions and poetry recitation will be held. Folk art forms will be staged and books exhibited. The meeting decided to form constituency-level organising committees for the yatra. A district-level committee was formed. It has Speaker K. Radhakrishnan and Revenue Minister K. P. Rajendran as chief patrons; Mayor R. Bindu, District Collector V. Baby and MLAs as patrons; District Panchayat president Ambadi Venu as chairman; and C.R. Das as general convener. Kerala Sahitya Akademi executive committee members Ashokan Cheruvil, Ravunni, School of Drama and Fine Arts director G. Kumara Varma, Irinjakaluda Unnayi Warrier Smaraka Kalanilayam president P. K. Bharathan, and others took part in the meeting.
