NEW DELHI: Vijay Kumar shot 778.8 and missed the bronze medal by 0.3 points in the 25-metre rapid fire pistol event in the World Cup Final in Wuxi, China, on Monday. The 24-year-old from the Army, Vijay shot 579 in the qualification, and 199.8 in the final. A round of 96 in the six-second series in the first stage cost him valuable points. In the 10-metre air rifle, defending champion Gagan Narang finished sixth with a total of 695.1, after he barely made the final following a qualifying shoot-off. He had shot 591 in the qualification with rounds of 99, 98, 97, 100, 99 and 98. He shot 104.1 in the final, but was nowhere near Zhu Qinan of China who took the gold and Henri Hakkinen of Finland who took the bronze. The results: Men: Air rifle: 1. Zhu Qinan (Chn) 701.7 (598); 2. Peter Sidi (Hun) 700.5 (599); 3. Henri Hakkinen (Fin) 698.6 (595); 6. Gagan Narang 695.1 (591). Rapid fire pistol: 1. Alexei Klimov (Rus) 783.6 (582); 2. Christian Reitz (Ger) 780.9 (583); 3. Teruyoshi Akiyama (Jpn) 779.1 (580); 4. Vijay Kumar 778.8 (579). Women: Air rifle: 1. Wu LInxi (Chn) 503.5 (400 EWR); 2. Yin Wen (Chn) 503.0 (399); 3. Lioubov Galkina (Rus) 500.0 (399); 8. Suma Shirur 496.8 (102.8).
