ISKCON misusing rice released under scheme, alleges employees’ association president Government urged to take over institution and appoint Administrative Officer to run its affairs MYSORE: The Karnataka State Akshara Dasoha Employees’ Association (KSADEA) affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) will stage a demonstration in Bangalore on October 21 to urge the Government to cancel permission given to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) to provide food under the Akshara Dasoha scheme. In a press release here on Monday, president of the association S. Varalakshmi said that the association would put pressure on the Government to register a criminal case and arrest Madhu Pandit Das and Chanchalapathi Das of ISKCON for their alleged misuse of rice released under the scheme. ‘Against orders’Though there was a direction from the Union Government against handing over the responsibility of preparing and supplying the food to “any religious and casteist organisations and individuals with profit motive”, the State Government had handed over this responsibility to ISKCON, she said. Ms. Varalakshmi also alleged that ISKCON was collecting money from people in foreign countries by projecting Indian children as beggars. Raising the issue in the Legislative Assembly, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee D.K. Shivakumar had alleged “massive” financial fraud in the scheme run by ISKCON and urged the Government to take over the institution and appoint an Administrative Officer to run its affairs.
