Vijayawada
A film number being performed by a group of dancers at Deepavali Mega Show organised by Kerala Club at Andhra Loyola College in Vijayawada on Sunday. VIJAYAWADA: It was a Sunday meant to spread cheer and celebrate for members of the city-based Kerala Club. The sprawling Fr. Devaiah auditorium on the premises of Andhra Loyola College became the destination for over 1500 Malayali families that revelled in a rare treat that came their way in the form of Deepavali Mega Show. They snapped their fingers, clapped their hands and stomped their feet as the rhythm, which reigned supreme, began to grab hold of them. It was a full-on entertainment for the local Malayali families in the native style, thanks to the troupe of artistes brought in from Trissur in Kerala. The troupe, included Malayali playback singer Sangeeth and cine artistes Niyas and Subi, besides Saju Kodiyan, Joshy Kalabhavan and Mani Shornur. The string of exuberant events performed by the troupe members included peppy dance numbers, film songs and mimicry. The audience soon fell into the right groove and revelled in the joy of the moment. Of late, the Kerala Club members have gradually been expanding their gamut of activity. The Deepavali Mega Show is already their third major event organised by them for entertaining the local Malayali families. The Onam celebration on a grand scale was followed by their recent act of charity wherein the members distributed nearly 500 bed sheets, 250 oil packets and biscuits to the flood-hit families in relief camps. “We also intend to float a Malayali school at the existing Gurukul School on Mahanadu road to promote Malayali language and culture among people of our community,” said C. Damodaran, president of the Kerala Club. The Club members are already gearing up to put together their next act – Christmas celebrations.
