Erode
ERODE: Erode joined the country on Monday in National Testing Service India’s project to prepare 16 lakh questions across subjects. At the Geethaanjali All India Secondary School, Thindal, the Central Institute of Indian Languages set up the Regional Field Unit (RFU), which will cater to all schools in Erode, Tirupur, Namakkal and Karur districts. The purpose of setting up the RFU, according to M. Yesudass, educationist at the institute, is to encourage teachers to come up with quality questions in their chosen discipline to evaluate students’ understanding of the subject. “They will have to come up with questions and answers that must pass the Centre’s quality test. The questions ought to be in such a fashion that they test students for understanding, comprehension, analysis, synthesis and a few other parameters. They may come up with any number of questions and answers and for every approved question and answer, the institute will pay Rs. 400.” He says the Union Human Resource Ministry-funded project plans to collect 16 lakh questions in all fields, both at school and collegiate level, by 2011 at Rs. 50 crore. The ministry has asked the Centre to take questions in Urdu, Hindi and Tamil. For the Tamil part, the Centre has set up RFUs in eight places.
