NEW DELHI: Nikon India on Wednesday launched two new digital SLR (single lens reflex) cameras and said it would open more exclusive stores to increase its presence in the Indian market. While D3000 camera has been priced at Rs. 30,450 (body only) and Rs. 37,950 (entire kit), the cost of D300s has been fixed at around Rs. 1.10 lakh.

Unveiling the new SLR cameras here, Nikon India Managing Director Hidehiko Tanaka said the 10.2-megapixel D3000 was an affordable answer for users looking to experience the superiority of digital SLR photography, while D300s, with 12.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and 51-point auto-focus system, balances performance, versatility and reliability for serious photo enthusiasts and professionals.

Mr. Tanaka said Nikon would soon launch an aggressive campaign to capture the fast-growing camera market in India. Nikon was aiming a 45 per cent market share in the SLR market, which stands at around 17,000 units a year. “Today we have only 10 Nikon Touch Zones in four metros, which would be increased to 40 by the end of this year. We also hope to maintain a growth rate of 35 per cent,” he added.
