MoUs signed for four pilot projects

KRISHNAGIRI: The memoranda of understanding for the four pilot projects approved by the Rural Business Hub Cell of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj were signed in the presence of the Collector V.K. Shanmugam here on Thursday.

The Thanjavur-based Periyar Maniammai University is the nodal agency for the Rural Business Hub in Tamil Nadu. M. Gabriel, Assistant Professor in Social Work, Centre for the Rural Development, participated in the meeting on behalf of Director of the University. The MoUs were signed for a rural BPO, sericulture, agarbathi productionand cutflower cultivation.

Rural Business Hub suggested BPO project for Uthangarai Union; sericulture for Uthangarai and Veppanahali unions; agarbatti production for Bargur, Mathur, Kaveripattinam unions and Uthangarai; and cutflower cultivation for Thaly, Hosur and Shoolagiri panchayat unions.

Rural Business Hub (RBH), an initiative by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Confederation of Indian Industry, is a first-of-its-kind public, private and panchayat partnership. It aims to foster and take economic growth to the rural districts in the State.

RBH has been conceptualised to synergistically link rural products, skills and produces with the marketing and professional skills of the industry.

M.R. Rajendran, Chairman, District Panchayat; Saraswathi Ganesan, Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam; V. Thirumalai, AGM, NABARD; Gnanauphar, Deputy Director, District Livestock Farm; P. Subbaiyan, Joint Director, Horticulture Department; Chairmen of Panchayat Unions participated.
