NEW DELHI: Heavy rain washed out the Lebanon-Sri Lanka match in the Nehru Cup at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Friday. The match would now be played on Saturday. Subsequently, all the matches have been rescheduled and the India-Krygystan contest is now slated for Sunday. According to an official of the organising committee, the pitch remained water-logged despite the best efforts of the ground staff. The organisers were not willing to take a chance as there was a possibility of the ground being damaged. “We were worried for the remaining matches and in any case we have time to reschedule the fixtures. Even if the water had been drained, the ground would not have been ideal for competition,” said the official. — Special Correspondent
