An intimate bond with Delhi

Madhur Tankha

Satish Kaushik

NEW DELHI: Delhi occupies a special place in Bollywood film-maker Satish Kaushik’s heart. Little wonder then that Kaushik, who grew up here in the bustling Karol Bagh area, decided to premiere his latest film, Teree Sang, at Pragati Maidan in the Capital on Thursday.

During an informal interaction, the seasoned actor-director revealed that Pragati Maidan was a lucky venue for him. “I choreographed Salman Khan’s hit song, ‘Lagan Lagi….’ in Tere Naam, at this place. The film was a big hit and, therefore, I decided to premiere my latest film at Shakuntalam theatre here. My friend Anupam Kher, with whom I studied at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, has co-produced this film.”

Through this film, Kaushik wants to send out a strong message to parents -- to take interest in their children, especially during their growing-up years. “Too much of office work and neglect of kids does irreparable harm to them. The film deals with the issue of teenage pregnancy, and the cast and crew have done full justice to the script,” he said.

Anupam Kher said while Mumbai was his karambhoomi, Delhi was his janambhoomi. “This is my first film as a producer and I need all the love and support from the people of the Capital. Parents should understand their children’s psychology and try not to neglect them as it can have far-reaching implications.”

The film’s main stars, Ruslaan Mumtaz and Sheena Shahabadi, were also present at the screening. Teree Sang is the story of Maahi, (Sheena), the only child of the Puri family. A sweet and bubbly Delhi girl, Maahi belongs to a prosperous family. While she has the best of material comforts and education, her boyfriend Kabir (Ruslaan) is the son of an auto-rickshaw driver. The friendship blossoms into romance and Maahi becomes pregnant. What follows is a journey of accepting one’s mistakes.

Ruslaan, who is a product of Anupam Kher’s acting school, said it was every new actor’s dream to work with veterans like Satish Kaushik, Rajat Kapoor and Anupam Kher.

India Trade Promotion Organisation senior general manager Safdar H. Khan said visitors to Pragati Maidan over the years had enjoyed performances by leading classical dancers, vocalists and instrumentalists. “It is our privilege to screen Satish Kaushik’s latest film that has an important message for teenagers.”
