BANGALORE: All the ongoing civil works of Namma Metro will now be monitored constantly for quality and safety aspects by the Government-constituted The Task Force on Quality Assurance in Public Works. The direction to the Task Force came from the Chief Minister in the wake of Monday’s incident on CMH Road where a steel cage for building a pier bent and other preceding accidents on Namma Metro worksites, Task Force Chairman C.S. Vishwanth told presspersons here on Thursday. “We have been asked to find out reasons and offer solutions to the metro accidents,” said Dr. Vishwanath, who is the Executive Director of the Tor Steel Foundation in India. Apart from Dr. Vishwanath, the Task Force comprises nine members, seven of whom were not associated with the Government at any time. So far, the Namma Metro project has reported six accidents, including the one on Monday, and two persons have died till now. “We went on inspection of worksites, documents and the material used in the construction and did not find any lapses,” Dr. Vishwanath said. Members of the Task Force held meetings with engineers of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd., (BMRCL) as well as engineers from construction agencies to highlight safety concerns. The Task Force, among other tasks, had been asked to monitor quality of work on major roads in the city.
