Official sources told The Hindu that of the projects conceptualized, an integrated development of roads would be carried out at Rs. 120 crore in a phased manner starting in the second half of the fiscal. Under the package, about 225 km stretch of the total 408 km road network in the city will be upgraded to ensure free flow of traffic during all seasons, with importance given to greenery along its sides. Besides this, ducting facilities for electricity and telephone cables and pavement with guard rails for pedestrians will be established on both sides of the roads. “We are also planning to put up user-friendly road signage system to guide motorists effectively,” Corporation Commissioner R. The old administrative block, which is being demolished, will be replaced with a majestic, modernized, four-story edifice. “The work on the Rs 4.5 crore new block will commence soon,” sources said.
