Act on climate

As pointed out in the editorial “Act on climate, now” (July 11), encouraging efficient public transport is a way forward on climate change. All the States should allocate funds in their budgets to make public transport more efficient and people-friendly. At the same time, they should conduct awareness campaigns on the importance of using public transport. Many private companies have started reducing their energy consumption, which is laudable.

S.R. Rajhamurugan,

Chennai

***

The target date of 2050 for reduction of greenhouse gases is indeed too remote. By then, it will be quite late to curb the threat to climate change. The world should make climate change a priority.

MD. Younus,

Hyderabad
