New Delhi
NEW DELHI: People for Animals founder Maneka Gandhi is organising a two-day fund-raiser at Select City Walk here beginning this coming Wednesday to provide shelter to homeless, lost and abandoned animals. To make the “Clothes Mountain” event successful, exporters from across the country have contributed 10,000 garments to the non-government organisation. The merchandise from leading multi-national brands would be up for grabs at economic rates. Animal sheltersSharing her views about the concept behind getting all the export houses under one umbrella, People for Animals trustee Ambika Shukla said the event is being organised to raise funds for building animal shelters and run ambulances. Generous donationWe can sustain the existing animal shelters or build new ones, depending on the sale of the products. We are having animal shelters in Delhi and National Capital Region of Gurgaon and Faridabad. Although we are running only 26 animal shelters across the country, our aim is to have one shelter in every district in the country. The exporters have shown large heartedness by generously donating merchandise that is sold at exorbitant rates abroad,” added Ms. Shukla, adding that goods that would be put up for sale would be priced between Rs. 300 and Rs. 500. Setting an exampleMs. Shukla said People for Animal wants to set an example by carrying on the dog sterilisation programme in Delhi. “In cooperation with the municipality, our NGO sterilises 30 dogs every day in the city. We also have a school outrage programme in which we tell children how to be more compassionate towards animals,” added the animal rights activist. Thrilling opportunityEvery year, People For Animals presents a novel and exciting event to raise funds and awareness for animal welfare. This year’s fundraiser has been designed in light of the current recession and offers a thrilling opportunity to benefit both yourself and animals. The event will be organised jointly with Garmentsonly.com, a website on fashion, garments, textiles and the apparel retail industry.
