Illegal constructions demolished

Staff Reporter

New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Saturday demolished nearly a score of unauthorised constructions that had come up on Esplanade Road in Chandni Chowk.

MCD spokesperson Deep Mathur said about 20 shops, most of them dealing in photography work, had encroached on public land and reached up to the road.

Following the demolition of these structures, he said, “the land that has been cleared will be used by pedestrians”. “The move by the MCD has been in the offing for several days. The shop owners knew that this was going to happen,” he said, adding that MCD had undertaken the removal following a High Court order.

Demolition of some unauthorised constructions in Chhattarpur Extension was also carried out by the MCD with the help of the Delhi police on Saturday.
